Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, average, top, and honors-level Algebra, Geometry, World History, and US History courses at Bainbridge High School will return to a semester-long format. Support level Algebra and Geometry classes will continue to meet every day for an entire year.
While this format was used in prior years, we moved these classes to a yearlong A/B rotation beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. This decision followed school improvement efforts and research that indicated the increased success of students who took math in a yearlong format.
Four years after its implementation, student growth data does not indicate that the A/B rotation has made any significant improvement in these courses. Therefore, we believe a return to a more traditional block schedule for these 9th and 10th grade courses is in the best interest of our students.
The faculty and staff at Bainbridge High School value your involvement and interest in your students' education and believe in keeping you abreast of any major changes in our curriculum and instructional programs. Please feel free to contact Sean Johnson, Curriculum AP at BHS, with any questions or concerns.
