2nd Grade STEM

The second grade students at John Johnson Elementary plant seasonal gardens throughout the school year. We use the garden as part of our “Organic Gardening” STEM unit.   Through the gardening process, the students learn about measurements, multiplication, seasons, responsibility, and many other second grade standards.  Students had the opportunity to visit Harvest Heydays to extend their learning of plants and their growth process.  At Harvest Heydays, students  picked pumpkins, cotton, corn, and peanuts.  They were also  instructed by a farmer as to how peanuts grow.  After the learning process was over, the students had some time to play in the corn maze and kernels of corn fun area.  The JJE second grade students and teachers would like to thank the Decatur County Foundation for funding this field trip.

JJE Loves Our Bus Drivers

JJE Celebrated Bus Driver's Day by giving gift bags to our drivers.  Thanks to these special people for getting our kids to and from school safely everyday.

After School Fun

John Johnson’s 21st Century students participated in Lights On After School on Thursday, October 22nd.  Students completed a STEM Spider Web challenge using dental floss.  The most favorite activity was making slime.
