Community Conversations

We would like to invite you to our first Community Conversation of the year on Thursday, October 5th at 8:15 A.M. in the West Bainbridge Elementary Media Center. We will discuss the importance of early literacy, and we will offer tips to promote literacy at home. Light refreshments will be served to those in attendance.
Please let Mr. Ard know if he can count on having you in attendance on October 5th so that we may plan accordingly. We certainly hope to host a large crowd!

Wildcat Teachers Club

Orientation was held 9-8-17 for the first ever Wildcat Teachers Club. It includes 10 participants from 3rd and 4th grade. The purpose of the club is to support families by training these students to build language skills at home with their younger siblings not yet enrolled in school.

Decatur County Schools Closed Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th

Parents and Community Members,

The uncertainty of the future track of Hurricane Irma and its potential impact on our area has led us to cancel school for all Decatur County Schools on Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th. We are hopeful that our area sees very little impact but the uncertainty remains too high to take any chances with the safety of our students and staff. Schools will reopen on Wednesday, September 13th unless developments change at which time we will update you all.  Thank you and be safe.

Sincerely,

Tim Cochran

Superintendent Decatur County Schools

Postphoned

We had planned to have a Positive Parenting workshop and Homework Help workshop on Thursday, August 31st.  However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are going to have to postpone and reschedule these workshops.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  Please look for a new date for these workshops in the near future.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

Eclipse Information

Parents and community members, as you may know on August 21st we will be experiencing a rare solar eclipse. In our area, the eclipse will begin around 1:09 p.m. and end around 4:06 p.m. with an expected peak around 2:41 p.m.  with an approximate blockage of 87% of the sun at the peak of the eclipse. It will be a very interesting phenomenon for our area to experience. Our teachers will be using this event as a teachable moment across our district as we have various activities planned.

On any given day it is never safe to stare directly into the sun without proper safety glasses, and this is no different during an eclipse. Please help us remind your students of these facts so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable experience during the eclipse.

Decatur County Schools will be on a regular schedule on August 21st and sees no need to shift our release times and cause any undue stress on our parents and their schedules.

Thank you for your support. We are all hopeful that the experience of the eclipse in our area will be a memorable one.

Summer Reading Tips for Parents

Honoring the Peanut

3/7/17
Dear Parents,
Decatur County is second in the state of Georgia for peanut production. On March 15th, we will be honoring the peanut farmers in our county for their hard work. As part of the celebration, students will be allowed to dress up as a peanut farmer or even as a peanut. Be creative as this is meant to be a fun way for us to recognize the peanut farmers in our community. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Jamie Ard

Queridos padres,
Sinceramente,
Jamie Ard
