HealthMPowers Announcement for the Week: Valentine’s Day is this week!  Everyone wants their loved ones to be happy and healthy.  Instead of gifting your loved ones with sugary candy, try gifting them with fruit or snacks with fewer calories.  They’ll love your forever!

SkillsUSA is selling Crush cans again for Valentine's Day! You may purchase a can Crush for your crush during all four lunches today and tomorrow. You must know the recipient's 3rd block teacher's room number and the crush will be delivered tomorrow on Valentine's Day. 

Interact Club will meet in the atrium Wednesday, February 19th during 4th lunch for a club photo. Wear your club shirts.

Attention all Juniors:  BHS is offering the ACT April Online Study on April 4, 2020.  This opportunity provides 11th graders the chance to take the ACT for FREE, with college-reportable scores.  ACT will pay the registration fee for the ACT or the ACT with Writing for participating students.  This opportunity is available to the first fifty (50) juniors to sign up.  First come, first served!  No exceptions.  Interested students can access the sign up link from the school website by clicking on "School Info," then "Guidance and Counseling" and scrolling down to "Important Dates/Events."  The link is also listed here: \https://forms.gle/UXHtqBYRAP3Xw9Ut6

Mr. Lewis and SkillsUSA would like to send a warm thank you to everyone involved in helping with the Blood Drive on Tuesday.   Donors, volunteers, student helpers, faculty and staff all worked together to make it a huge success and save lives!  The final Blood Drive for BHS will be held on Tuesday, April 21st so let's plan ahead to make it the best one of all!

Any Key Club member that did not attend the meeting on February 12, 2020; please see Mr. Harper as soon as possible.  Also please remember that we have our mandatory yearbook picture on February 19, 2020 at 7:25 am in the front of the school.  Men will need to wear slacks, button down shirts, and blazers and women need to wear dresses.

Outstanding Senior applications are now available in Guidance. Attendance, discipline and GPA will be checked.  They must be turned in to Dr. Chambers no later than 3:00 p.m. on February 14th.  Late applications will not be accepted.  

Bearcat Nation window decals are now on sale at BHS for $12.00.  See Mrs. Wooten to purchase one today.  Supplies are limited!

Art Club will meet on February 13th in the Art Room from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  Buy a Valentine’s Day ad for your special someone from a Golden Graffiti staff member.  They only cost a dollar, and space is limited, so buy today.

Attention Bearcats:  Our ebooks and auidobooks app, Destiny Read, is still having problems on iPhones.  The app works on some iPhones but not on others.  The company is working on a fix but it will not be out until later in the spring.  They are supposed to let Mrs. Montague know when the update goes live and she will let you know.  You should be able to read or listen just fine on a computer; the problem is with the app.

Certificate of Attendance/Enrollment:  Students requesting Certificate of Attendance/Enrollment MUST sign up online on the BHS website page; go to Quick Links, Certificate of Enrollment to sign up.  Students must sign up by Monday midnight.  Certificates will be available for pick up on Wednesday.  There will be a $1.00 charge for certificates.

Morning Traffic Flow:  All students coming from Bainbridge must enter the campus via the west gate (bus gate); only students entering campus from the east (Climax) should enter via the main gate.  All student drop off is in the front of the school and parents dropping off should enter the main gate.

School Parking at BHS requires a parking permit. Honor parking is the first row nearest the English/Fine Arts wing.  Senior Row is the second row from the English/Fine Arts wing.  Only students with Honors Parking permits are allowed to park on Honors Row, and only seniors are to park on Senior Row.

All students who drive to school are required to have a Parking Permit.  Permits are $15 and can be purchased from Mrs. Wooten in the front office.  Students who receive a ticket for not having a parking permit will be fined $20. 


Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia (COAG) Scholarship ($1000) is now available. Submit a 1,000 word essay and complete the COAG application.  Essay theme and application can be found online at coagonline.org/coag-scholarship.  Applications can also be picked up in Guidance.   All applications must be received (not postmarked) by our office no later than March 13, 2020 or they will be deemed ineligible.  Applications mailed to any other address will not be forwarded or considered.

NAACP Scholarship Applications are located in Guidance.  Please complete and return to Guidance by the deadline, April 8, 2020.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship is now available.  Senior applicant must be active in both school and community with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Applications can be picked up in Guidance.  Deadline is April 3, 2020.

An updated application for the James Eunice Scholarship is available in Guidance.  Deadline is March 15th. 

Dueno Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 scholarship) is now available.  Requirements are: 2.5 or higher GPA, minimum of two years participation on the Cross Country team, completed application, and one letter of reference is required (it must be from a high school teacher who can speak to the character of the student). All requirements must be met for consideration. Completed application deadline is Friday, April 17th by 3:00 p.m. Applications can be picked up in Guidance.

Seniors:  Representatives from SRTC will be at BHS in the classroom next to Guidance on February 19th at 11:00 a.m.  Sign up in guidance with Ms. Melton. 

Mr. Steward from ABAC will be at BHS in the classroom next to guidance on February 18th at 11:00. Sign up in guidance with Ms. Melton. 

Attention Seniors:  Seniors interested in attending summer school at Southern Regional Technical College will need to go through the Admissions and Financial Aid Departments since Dual Enrollment will not pay for it. ABAC Scholarship Application for “New Student” and current class of 2020 dual enrollment students that plan to enroll at ABAC in the Fall of 2020 is available at New Student Scholarship Application  - (https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/SQqWb0fYyc5a1). Scholarship applicants will need to have an ABAC Id number and Stallion email address.  Therefore, the scholarship applicants must apply and be accepted into ABAC prior to submitting the scholarship application. The deadline for the scholarship application to be submitted is April 1st

Southwest Georgia Farm Credit will offer the $2000 Duane Watson Scholarship to a graduating senior from southwest Georgia pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Crop Production, Livestock Production, Crop & Soil Science, Agricultural Technology, Agricultural Research, Sustainable Agriculture, or Agribusiness. The application is available under the learn tab on SWGAFARMCredit.com.   Application deadline is April 1, 2020.

The Georgia District Civitan Foundation invites you to apply for the following scholarship: 2019-2020 Alice Dodd Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a Georgia high school senior who has an outstanding record of community service in pursuing his/her education objectives. Academics and financial need are important and will be reviewed, but the overriding criteria will be the applicant's community service involvement.  Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2020.  Applications are in guidance.

The Georgia District Civitan Foundation invites your Junior Civitan Club senior members, to apply for the 2020 Georgia District Junior Civitan Scholarships and the 2020 Robert Wyand Junior Civitan Scholarship.  The two recipients of the 2020 Georgia District Junior Civitan Scholarships will receive $1,000 awards each and one recipient of the 2020 Robert Wyand Junior Civitan Scholarship will receive a $ 1,000 award. The deadline for sending applications is March 15, 2020. Applications are in Guidance.

Georgia Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities Scholarship:  Applicant must be a current resident of the Housing and Redevelopment Authorities with at least 2 years of residency or a recipient of assistance through the Community Development Block Grant Program.  Deadline is March 10th.  Applications are in Guidance.

Bill Reynolds Memorial Scholarship:  One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually. Applicants must be a graduating senior. Applicants must reside in the United States, and plan to attend a post-secondary college or university in the United States. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Leadership Abilities, Community Service and Academics. A transcript must be attached in order to be considered. Applications are in Guidance. 

The James Eunice Legacy Fund presents $500 scholarships annually to graduating seniors to continue James' legacy of investing in others. Applicants must be a graduating High School senior.  All applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.50.  Applicants must reside in the United States, and be enrolled or intend to enroll in a post-secondary college, technical college or university in the United States. Applications are in Guidance. 

The Gaines-Jones Scholarship will be available online starting February 1, 2020.  Applicant must be a college-bound African American high school senior residing in Decatur County and participates in extracurricular activities and community service. Strong personal essay, short answer, and reference letters required. Visit https://gaines-jones.org/scholarships/ to apply. Deadline April 20, 2020.

Fabric of Society Scholarship Essay Contest applications are located in Guidance.  Entrants must be on track to graduate in 2020.  Essays must be from 600 to 800 words. Deadline is Monday, February 24, 2020. 

Georgia’s Own Credit Union Scholarship ($1000) is now available. The applicant must be a dependent of a primary member of Georgia’s Own Credit Union.  Applications can also be picked up in Guidance.  Deadline is March 31, 2020.

The Chandlor Grace Smith Memorial scholarship application is now available in Guidance.  The recipient of the scholarship will be a graduating Senior who is a foster and/or adopted child.  However, the recipient will not be recognized as a foster and/or adopted child when receiving the award.  Applications can be picked up in Guidance.  Deadline is March 27, 2020.

The Fort Rucker-Wiregrass Chapter of the Association of the United States Army awards over $20,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school students. Application deadline is April 15, 2020.  For requirements and application please visit www.ausawiregrass.org/our-news/national-events

For the student who looks for an academic challenge and an opportunity to gain scholarship funds, the American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is a natural fit. Students learn about our country’s Constitution in an oratorical speech contest that has been held by the American Legion for more than 80 years. Valdosta State University offers a scholarship opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in education.  The Sullivan Scholars Program provides debt-free college tuition, room/board, books, and fees plus a small stipend per semester for qualified students who are passionate about becoming teachers.  To qualify, students must meet the following criteria: Be enrolled in 10th or 11th grade in a rural Georgia high school, demonstrate significant financial need, must be HOPE eligible (4 rigor courses and 3.0 or higher HOPE GPA, or on track to become HOPE eligible upon high school graduation), and must be a U.S. Citizen.  If you are a 10th or 11th grader and plan to pursue a degree in education and would like attend Valdosta State University, please see your school counselor or Mrs. Tonya Welch in BHS room 1141.  All applications must be received no later than March 1st.
