Daily Bulletin - October 13, 2020

HealthMPowers Announcement for the Week:  Challenge yourself!  This week try to reach one hour of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic activity.  Aerobic exercise means “with oxygen”, so your breathing and heart rate should increase during these activities.  Try jumping rope, walking, jogging, cycling or dancing.  Remember, exercising is always more fun with a buddy, so call up a friend or family member to join you!    

Attention Students:  Please practice Social Distancing while on campus.  Wearing a Mask is not mandatory, but is highly recommended.  Let’s all do our part! 

Tickets for the Bainbridge vs. Cairo Football game will be sold Monday and Tuesday, October 12th and 13th during all lunches due to Fall Break.

Boys and Girls Basketball tryouts will begin on October 26th.  Sign-up sheets are located in the gym.  You must have a current physical on file and be academically eligible to tryout.

The ASVAB will be given at BHS to Juniors and Seniors only on Wednesday, November 11th at 8:00 a.m.  This test is available to the first 50 students to sign up.  Please visit the BHS Counseling website (accessible through the BHS Home Page) to sign up.

Please turn in your soda can tabs to Mrs. T. Jones in room 6109.

The Purango staff is also accepting Summer Pictures at this time.  Please submit your appropriate summer pictures to Dr. Chambers in room 6204 or email them to her at hchambers@dcboe.com .

Any student who drives to school and parks on campus must purchase a 2020-2021 Parking Decal; at the cost of $15.00.  Payments can now be made through the student portal or Mrs. Wooten in the front office.  October 20th is the deadline for current drivers to purchase a decal. Students ticketed for not having a valid parking decal will be fined $15.00 for the first offense and $30.00 for the second offense.

Certificate of Attendance/Enrollment:  Students requesting Certificate of Attendance/Enrollment MUST sign up online on the BHS website page; go to Quick Links, Certificate of Enrollment to sign up.  Students must sign up by Monday midnight.  Certificates will be available for pick up on Wednesday.  There will be a $1.00 charge for certificates.

Morning Traffic Flow:  All students coming from Bainbridge must enter the campus via the west gate (bus gate); only students entering campus from the east (Climax) should enter via the main gate.  All student drop off is in the front of the school and parents dropping off should enter the main gate.

Honor parking is the first row nearest the English/Fine Arts wing.  Senior Row is the second row from the English/Fine Arts wing.  Only students with Honors Parking permits are allowed to park on Honors Row, and only seniors are to park on Senior Row.

SCHOLARSHIPS/COLLEGE INFORMATION

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide each recipient with the opportunity to Graduate College Debt-Free. Recipients of a Hagan Scholarship will graduate from an Eligible Public High School located in a county having fewer than 50,000 residents or from a remote rural public high school located in a larger county. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 32nd class in 2020, the Foundation has provided over 6,300 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $72 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.  To apply, visit https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/ccsf.  The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Eastern Time on October 31, 2020To proceed, applicants must be:  (1) Current high school (or home-schooled) student attending a school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools) who will graduate during the 2020-2021 academic school year.  (2) U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees - based on the guidelines utilized by U.S. Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid eligibility. (3) Will receive high school diploma during current academic year.  (4) Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.  Applicants may not be:  (1) Children or grandchildren of employees, officers, or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies, The Coca-Cola Company, Company divisions or subsidiaries.  (2) Children or grandchildren of former employees, officers, or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies, The Coca-Cola Company, Company divisions or subsidiaries who are currently receiving retirement benefits from those entities.  (3) International students (with the exception of students attending select DoD schools).  (4) High school graduates.  (5) Temporary Residents (in other words, your permanent legal residence is outside the U.S.).

The Fall 2020 Virtual Probe College Tour for Juniors and Seniors will be November 2 and November 4-5.  Students can sign up for registration announcements and updates on participating colleges at gaprobe.org/students.  Parents may sign up at gaprobe.org/parents

The VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public high school.  Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity toexpress themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, more than 51,000; 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.9 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.  The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$16,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. All meals will be prepackaged.  Teachers are welcome to come to either lines and buy a complete meal.  There will not be any a la carte items sold.
