As a child of a high school mathematics teacher, I have always known that I would pursue a career in teaching. After graduating from Bainbridge High School, I attended Bainbridge College where I obtained an Associate's of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Middle Grades Education. I later pursued and obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University.
I taught at Decatur-Grady Head Start for 6 years, working with children ages 18 months to five years old, before finding my passion in Special Education. I taught the following two years at Pathways Educational Program in Bainbridge where I worked with students with emotional behavior disabilities. In 2018, I was given the opportunity to take a position as a Special Education Teacher at Bainbridge Middle School.
I enjoy teaching each of the five content areas, but I have a passion for Science. I like to provide opportunites in the classroom that many students who not have access to. Our class has a pet bearded dragon named Torch and a pet hamster named Boomer. Class pets are a great way for students to learn empathy and to cope with emotions when they may be upset. I believe strongly in meeting a student where he or she may be, building trusting bonds, and stregthening social skills. A student will learn best from a teacher who cares.
