CONVID-19: School Closure Notice

Dear Parents, Faculty, and Staff,

Due to the increase fear of spreading COVID-19 and at the guidance of the Governor’s Office, Decatur County schools will suspend all school activities and classes beginning Monday, March 16th for two weeks. This two-week suspension coincides with Spring Break so students will not return to school until Monday, April 6th.

It is the hopes of the Governor’s Office that keeping individuals isolated over this time period will better allow public health to identify and treat those infected with COVID-19 and reduce the spread.

During the time away from school our system has provided online resources for parents. Students can continue their active learning by visiting our web-page at www.dcboe.com. There students can find more information and links to online learning activities. Please note, these resources are certainly not required but are available for your student at your pleasure.

This continues to be a fluid situation and we will keep you updated as the situation evolves.

Sincerely,

Tim Cochran, Superintendent

Decatur County Schools

Georgia Milestones Assessment

Georgia Milestones Assessment

The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive assessment system. Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics in grades 3rd through 8th , and Science, and Social Studies in 5th and 8th grades. Decatur County students will participate in the Georgia Milestones between April 20 and April 24. It is very important that your student is at school each day, rested, and ready to do their best on the End of Grade Assessment.

For further information or questions, you may contact your child’s administration or Chip Davis, Director of Federal Programs at 229-248-2853.

Georgia Parent Survey

The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. For parents who do not have access to the Internet, school administrators should consider scheduling dates and times to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school. All parents should be encouraged to participate in theGeorgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.
