Much to Be Thankful For

Welcome to November at West Bainbridge Elementary!  Of course, this month we take time to focus on being thankful, and I think we all realize just how much we have to be thankful for this year following Hurricane Michael.

Certainly, all of us were impacted in some way by the storm.  Some experienced more devastation and hardships than others, but all of us can and should be thankful that we survived the whole ordeal.  I hope that you and your family will certainly take time together to count your many numerous blessings in the days ahead.

Always remember that even when you are experiencing difficulties and challenges in life that there is always someone somewhere that is worse off then you.  This will help keep you humble and thankful for what you do have!

Christmas Program Update

Our annual Christmas Program will take place on Thursday, December 13th.  Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grades will be performing at 9:00 A.M.  Second, third, and fourth grades will be performing at 1:30 P.M.  Please refer to the parent notice for further details regarding our programs.  Our students are looking forward to performing for you, and we very much look forward to seeing you there!

Free Text Service for Pre-K Parents

Georgia has its very own free text service for parents of 4 and 5 year olds!  Thanks to the Georgia Department of Education and Stanford University, parents can receive tips, facts, and resources to help get their child ready for kindergarten.  Joining is easy- parents just text "GAready4K" to 313131.

Reminder:  “Fall Back” an hour before going to bed on Saturday, November 3rd.

Helpful Hints to stay healthy during the flu season

It’s that time of year when we start seeing signs and symptoms of the flu and other viruses. The best defense to staying healthy is GOOD HAND WASHING. Encourage your child to wash his or her hands often and to cough and/or sneeze into his or her arm.

Please remember to keep your child home if he or she has.….

Fever greater than 100.5

Severe Cough and Congestion

Students should not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without having to take fever-reducing medicine. Also, if your child has been seen by a physician please send in the excuse to return to school. Illnesses that require antibiotics must be given for at least 24 hours prior to returning to school.

Medications can be given at school but MUST be provided by the parent along with a note authorizing the nurse to administer it at school.

Grade Level News Tidbits

Pre K:  Welcome to the Theme Awesome Animals! Learning about animals and caring for them are ways that children get more information about the natural world and about themselves. When studying animals, children gain knowledge of the environment and better understand their place in it.

K:  Please continue to work on sight words each day.  Review letter sounds and vowel sounds as well.  Please also continue to work to count up to twenty pennies and beyond if your child is capable.  Also review positional words such as front, behind, beside, inside, and outside.  If we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.  Feel free to e-mail us or contact us via Class Dojo.

1st Grade:  First grade teachers were overjoyed to see our students return to school. We're grateful for things being as well as they are. Let's be encouraged!  Parents, please continue to read with your child(ren) every night. Students are expected to take an AR test every day, if possible. After your child(ren) reads his/her book, ask comprehension questions and allow him/her think time so they can  answer the questions independently. You may view your child's AR scores online with the home connect. If you have misplaced it, please let us know.

2nd Grade:   Second grade is back on schedule. We are busy catching up and conquering 2nd nine weeks standards. If you have questions about how to help your child with these standards, we are having a homework workshop November 1st at 5:30. We hope everyone is well and beginning to recover from Hurricane Michael. If you find you still need assistance with recovery, please speak with your child's teacher and we will assist in any way we can.

3rd Grade:   Welcome to November! Please continue to review multiplication/division facts with students at home. Also, please continue to read AR books with children each night. Students are expected to take three or more AR tests each week with scores of 80% or better. Third grade will be taking a field trip to the Kirbo Center on November 7th to watch the play Beauty and the Beast. This will go along with our ELA standards relating to dramas and plays, as well as character traits. More information will be sent in the days to come. Please keep a check on your child's folder, as well as Class Dojo. Please keep in mind...If you would like to accompany us on the field trip, you MUST be a certified parent volunteer. For more information relating to this, please contact Cheryl Guy at cguy@dcboe.com or 229-243-6847.

4th Grade:   Welcome to November!

We are getting close to Thanksgiving holiday. Please remember to check homework folders each night and continue to work on multiplication facts. Reading AR books is essential to making good test grades and shows comprehension. Please make sure to check Class Dojo each day for important messages. We will continue with having repeated reading folders. We will take Ilearn mid-year assessment at the end of November.
