Title 1 started with the passage of the elementary and secondary education act of 1965. Its aim is to help ensure that all children have equal access to quality education with the chance to reach grade level proficiency.
West Bainbridge Elementary is a Title 1 school. This means WBE receives Title 1 money, the largest single federal funding source ever passed by Congress for education. About 1100 schools in Georgia use Title 1 funding school-wide and about 200 schools use the funding for Targeted Assistance Title 1 programs.
Title 1 funds help students in several ways. Services can include hiring teachers to reduce class size, tutoring, computer labs, parent involvement activities, professional development, purchasing materials and supplies, and hiring paraprofessionals.
