Personalized Learning Community (PLC)

From the Director

The Personalized Learning Community (PLC) is an innovative program developed as an alternative for students at risk for not completing high school.  MPLC serves 7th grade students in the middle school program and PLC serves grades 9th-12th in the high school program. The Middle School MPLC program (formerly ALTO) provides a more intimate learning environment in a traditional setting. Students are taught from a combined 7-8 curriculum based on GPS standards. The middle school program targets maturity and skill deficiencies that usually lead to struggles upon entering high school and/or dropping out of school.

The High School PLC program provides students with a smaller, non-traditional learning environment. The High School curriculum is also based on GPS standards but taught mainly online.  The computer based program that is being used is Odysseyware. High school students must meet the same requirements for graduation as main campus students, including attending high school eight semesters.

All students, especially those whose academic success and social well-being are threatened, and those that need support in navigating their educational careers are welcome to apply at our facility.  The PLC provides a safe environment for students to develop better decision making skills while gaining ground academically. The goal of PLC is to equip students with tools for success: high school diploma, work ethics, decision making skills, and interpersonal skills.

The Personalized Learning Community (PLC) operates with the expectation that each student can succeed. Our educational team values the input of all members: student, parent/guardian, staff, and administration. Our goal is to empower students to be high school graduates and successful in life.
