The DuBose welcome train keeps rolling as he appeared on SOWEGA Live’s Morning Show. Decatur County Schools would like to extend a huge thank-you to the Touchdown Club and Bert Hines for organizing, and sincere appreciation to Kevin Dowdy, station host, for the warm welcome and for having him on the show. Biscuits, smiles, and a whole lot of appreciation 💛

The Biscuits for the Best Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, proudly sponsored by SunStop Stores, made its way to Bainbridge High School to celebrate the educators and staff who show up every day for our students. A warm breakfast and a warm thank-you were served as a small way to recognize the big impact our Bearcats make.

Superintendent Dr. Boyd English, members of the Central Office team, and our generous partners from SunStop stopped by to share encouragement and appreciation—and of course, Sunny the SunStop mascot added a little extra sunshine to the morning ☀️

We’re thankful for SunStop’s continued partnership and for the outstanding BHS team that makes our school community stronger every day.

Winter temperatures have arrived across our area, and colder mornings are expected in the days ahead. To help students stay comfortable and safe while at school and traveling to and from campus, we encourage families to plan for the cold weather.

Warm clothing is essential on chilly mornings. A heavy jacket, hat, gloves, thick socks, and additional layers can make a big difference, especially during arrival times and outdoor transitions.

Students who ride the bus should remain indoors until shortly before pickup whenever possible. Since delays can happen, being dressed appropriately is important to limit exposure to cold temperatures.

We appreciate your help in keeping our Bearcats warm, healthy, and ready to learn throughout the winter season.

Decatur County Schools is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families. To support this effort, OPENGATE Security Systems are now in use at the primary and elementary levels.

At Jones Wheat Primary (JWP) and West Bainbridge Primary (WBP), OPENGATE is located in the front office safety vestibules for parent and visitor entry. At Hutto Elementary, OPENGATE systems are placed at areas of entry used by both students and adults, including the lobby, gym, and cafeteria.

Our teachers recently came together to collaborate across grade levels with one shared goal: helping students succeed at every stage of their learning.

During the meeting, teachers talked through what students learn each year to make sure skills and expectations build smoothly from one grade to the next. They identified areas where students may need extra support and worked to avoid unnecessary repetition, creating a more seamless learning experience.

By aligning key vocabulary, teaching methods, and how student learning is measured, teachers ensured consistency and clarity for students as they move forward in school. This teamwork reflects a strong commitment to high expectations, clear communication, and continuous improvement—so every student is supported, challenged, and prepared for what comes next.
